Julie Burchill once wrote that “Tonight” is the greatest title in all of rock’n’roll, and she’s right, right? I used to hear bits of Burchill-wisdom being recounted quite often in The Pooh Sticks and there was always a copy of ‘The Boy Looked At Johnny’ laying around which I’d dip into when it wasn’t time for the tambourine yet, or if the cats had had enough of us fighting a flappy bass sound and had gone out or something. Anyway, this is possibly the poppiest thing the band ever recorded and it made more sense as a single than “Kick Out The Jams”, for instance. In between the spoutings of Burchill-lore, I was quite often subjected to (but tuned out of) lectures about how the A-Square single compared to ‘all galaxies exploding at once’, but obviously we were 10,000 light years away from galaxy-destroying and it was mostly the r’n’r mythologising of the “Back In The USA” album which was the bit of the '5 that had the biggest direct influence on The Pooh Sticks. Obviously, there’s our “Tonight”, but there’s also quite of bit of this going on in “Radio Ready” also on “Formula One Generation”, and in “Let The Good Times Roll” on “Million Seller”.
"Think Bubble" is an album (LP only) of 1995 demos for an unreleased Pooh Sticks album.
