(Top 50 Countdown!!!) 38. The Love Affair - "Rainbow Valley"

Directly, perhaps, we got the girl-interruptions on our “Heroes And Villains” from this one, but mostly it just immediately makes me think of looking down over Swansea from up on Pant-Y-Celyn Road. Now, Swansea’s not in a valley, and although it doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of rainbows going on… well, they’re there if you look hard enough. Like all rainbows, though, they tend to come and go – you have to make the most of them when they’re around. The “one who’s always mine” isn’t mine these days, and hasn’t been for a long time, but I have nothing but fond memories. I was sad about it one day and all of a sudden there was our song “Million Seller”, apparently supposed to add some stardom-road to balance out the loss (didn’t work, but it’s the thought that counts, right?). Anyway, don’t want to get all Leonard Cohen on your ass: it was also down there in the ugly-lovely that the rainbow in “Stereo Love” first appeared. I’ll always be grateful to Swansea for that.

"Think Bubble" is an album (LP only) of 1995 demos for an unreleased Pooh Sticks album. See 'About Me' for details.
